An Irish Toast

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

May those who love us, love us.

And for those who don’t love us,

May God turn their hearts.

And if he can not turn their hearts,

May he turn their ankles,

So we may know them by their limping.

May you live as long as you want, and never want as long as you live.

Give Them Hell!!!

Thursday, April 27th, 2006

My brother Mike gave the best quote of the day from my late grandfather. He definitely gave them every bit of hell. It’s been a rough couple of days, but it’s also been great to see so many people who cared so much for him. He really was an amazing man, and you just don’t see honorable men like that these days. He taught us a lot about respect and doing right, but he also taught us to speak for ourselves and not let people walk over us.

Today was great with the honor guard and the bag pipes. Then the massive amount of green everybody was wearing to show the Irish pride these last two days. He would have loved every bit of it. He’s told me to travel and see as much as I can; he loved to travel. He used to take loans out to travel and spend the rest of the year repaying it. He was a man who made life happen and didn’t sit back for it. His sense of humor is what I’m going to miss the most. No matter what, whenver I saw him we’d share a laugh over something. He told the best stories. Now he leaves behind a big proud family and an even bigger legacy; he will be sorely missed.

An Irish Prayer

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

Death is nothing at all.
It does not count.
I have only slipped away into the next room.
Everything remains as it was.
The old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged.
Whatever we were to each other, that we are still.
Call me by the old familiar name.
Speak of me in the easy way which you always used.
Put no sorrow in your tone.
Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together.
Play, smile, think of me, pray for me.
Let my name be ever the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effort
Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight?
I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner.
All is well. Nothing is hurt; nothing is lost.
One brief moment and all will be as it was before.
How we shall laugh at the trouble of parting, when we meet again.

Look out Dublin here I come

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006

I bought my ticket to Dublin tonight. We’re going Nov. 3rd – Nov. 11th which should be just enough time to have everything Guinness. Those interested in coming, air fare was pretty reasonable and the flight numbers are EI124 Chicago to Dublin and EI125 Dublin to Chicago.

There’s lot of fun to be had in Dublin!

I’m hating it…

For my glorious Easter dinner I had McDonalds since just about every other place in wonderful Stoughton was closed. I can sincerely say after weeks of avoiding fast food that I should have continued the trend.

I finally took my bicycle out and around the trails this weekend. Fortunately I witnessed a man being arrested by Wingra Lake on Saturday.

Easter Cancelled

Wednesday, April 12th, 2006

I usually don’t write about anything too serious, but tonight I feel obligated. I received a call from home that our annual Easter brunch is going to be cancelled. I was shocked since we’ve been having Easter for as long as I can remember. What shocked me even more was the reason. My grandfather is in the hospital and isn’t doing that great. I’m a very fortunate person and all of my grandparents are still alive. Every time I take a trip for work or pleasure they receive a postcard with my status.

It’s been hard for me since I have a deep amount of respect for my grandfather. He served in WWII, raised a large thriving family and has always been there when you needed him. He’s told me countless humorous and interesting stories over the years that I wish I had the same talent to tell. He taught me (and hopefully my brothers) the value of saving money and spending wisely. In my eyes, he’s one of the most remarkable men I’ve met. He’s always been a fighter and always pulls through. I hope this time is like any other.

People who use MySpace likely to die earlier

Tuesday, April 11th, 2006

It’s true, so stop using MySpace. If you do, please add backgrounds so nobody can read your text and loud obnoxious music. It will make the experience all the more better for others.

The April fool that fooled too many

Sunday, April 2nd, 2006

Well I decided to play a quick joke on my fellow visitors; see here for what I’m talking about. It did generate a lot more responses then I had expected. A much better listing of April Fool’s Day pranks can be found here on Wikipedia.

My friends came up Saturday for a little fun in Madison. It quickly turned into a lot of fun at a certain bar and me swearing to never drink again. Still not as bad as Mary’s reception, but the night was definitely up there. A big thanks to Lou for the wild turkey shot; I’ll forever be thankful.
